Obituary:Mrs. Pauline O. Caldwell 71, widow of former Shreveport Mayor Sam
S. Caldwell died at 1:15 A. M. today in Highland Hospital following a short illness.
Mrs. Caldwell who resided at 230 Ockley Dr., was born Anna Pauline Owen Sept
12, 1894 in Delhi. In 1913 she married Mr. Caldwell, who was from Morringsport,
and began a long career of helping her husband as a public leader. Mr. Caldwell
served as mayor for 12 years from 1934 to 1946.
Mrs Caldwell who had lived here for 50 years, was a member of First Presbyterian
Church and was a former chairman of the Shreveport Beautification Foundation.
In past years she was an active member of the Woman's Club.
An avid gardener, Mrs Caldwell spent many years working with the local day lily
society. The Shreveport Iris Society and the Broadmoor Garden Club. She helped
plan and conduct annual tours of Shreveport gardens and homes.
During World War II she helped stage tag days for the local YWCA. Mrs. Caldwell
is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John Y. Morgan, of Shreveport; a granddaughter,
Polly Decker Morgan, also of Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs C.A. Nenney, of Monroe,
and Mrs George Reid of N. Y., N.Y.and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Osborn Funeral
Home. Officiating will be Dr. J. Frank Alexander, pastor of First Presbyterian
Church.
Pallbearers will be Alex F. Smith, M.E. Weber, C. V. Lisman, Tom Tanner, Val
Irion, Henry Weisman, W.R. Cradick, H. Kneeland Phelps, Jr., A. H. Weyland and
Norman Preston. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
