He Biography.(94) Willie was a very
handsome man. He had very dark brown hair and mustache. He was of medium stature
and he had only one eye. Ruth does not remember how he lost his eye, only that
it happened while working at the pump house or while shoeing horses. He went
on the train to Chicago to have the bad eye removed. He then had a glass eye
replacement. He, also, had part of his ear removed. He went alone. Ruth says
she still has the papers on that trip somewhere. The large gold cross that Nan
has belonged to Aunt Betty McCabe. "Aunt Betty was Willy's aunt or cousin
or something I tried to forget, because I didn't like her".
The house where Willie was born was in Delhi, La. and it belonged to Stephen
A. Owen. This same house is where Willy raised all of his children. My only
recollection of the house was a back room. Grandaddy kept a tin of peppermint
candy upon a shelf in this room and if we were good he would give us one stick
of peppermint each day. Ruth says the back room was sealed in later years and
they didn't use it. She says it was a big house. There were two big front
rooms and two small rooms behind them. The kitchen was a large room across
the back and there was a back porch. There were four rooms.
As his daughter Ruth tells, "Willie" was a fun loving Father. He
enjoyed playing games and jokes with the neighborhood children. By trade, he
worked at the water-pump house for the railroad. He retired with the railroad
and drew a pension for the rest of his life.He enjoyed working with animals ,and
worked as a part time vetenarian. Their home was sold to the Delhi Methodist
Church and was later removed to build the Church. He and Lula Pearl moved into
the home of Vernon and Ruth (their oldest daughter) Fortenberrry and lived there
until their deaths. Willie died of multiple problems, at the Fortenberry home,
North of Holly Ridge. Lula Pearl died in the Delhi hospital of old age.
He was married to Lula Pearl Wade on Dec 27 1900 in Oak Grove, West Carroll
Parish, La..(95)
Lula Pearl Wade was born on Mar 7 1877 in Caldwell
Parish, La..
She died on Nov 1 1961 in Delhi Clinic, Delhi, Richland Pa., La..
(96) Death was caused by cardiovascular disease.
She was buried in Delhi Cemetery, Delhi, Richland Pa., La..

hands were crippled much like arthritis cripples hands. Apparently a bone fellon
is like an abscess in the joint. She had several of her fingers lanced.
