The funeral of Mrs. Lutitia Engle, who died at her home in Maple Heights W ednesday
morning, was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Maple Churc h. Rev. B.D.
Beck pastor of the Locust Street Church, had charge of the se rvices. Burial

Bert Monnett, Son Of Mrs. Daniel Young, So Badly Injured That He Cannot Su rvive--Neck
Broken And Shoulder Crushed--Accident Near Freight Depot Th is Morning
Victim Could Not Hear Well
Struck by a Vandalia freight train at a little after 11 o'clock this mor ning,
Bert Monette (sic), 26 years old, son of Mrs. Daniel Young, was so b adly injured
that
he cannot recover. His neck is broken and his shoulder badly mashed.
The accident occurred at the east end of the freight house. Monnett w as found
lying beside the track a few minutes after the local freight trai n, No. 93,
west bound, had passed the depot. This was at 11:20 o'cloc k. He immediately
was taken to the home of his mother on Berry Street. D r. Ayler was called and
found him in a dying condition, his neck being bro ken and shoulder badly mashed.
The doctor says that the victim cannot li ve long.
Monnett is slightly deaf and it is supposed that he did not hear the app roaching
train. The steam escaping from the engine kept the engineer and f ireman from
seeing the man on the track. As far as is known no one saw t he accident.
The death of Mr. Monnett occurred at 1:45 o;clock. He leaves his mothe r, Mrs.
Benjaman (sic) Young, and three brothers, Alvah, Ross and Edward, all of t his
city. the funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
