Iva I. Monnett, age 66, of 325 South Sherman Street, died early tod ay after
failing health over the past ten years.
Mr. Monnett was a former Pennsylvania Railroad and Cherry Transfer Co .,
employee but has been in semiretirement over several years. During t he depression
years Mr. Monnett occupied a prominent position in that he s erved as president
of the Common Laborers Union. For fifteen years he w as committeeman of Precinct
8 and assisted in Democratic headquarters duri ng the last campaign.
He was born in Hendricks County, son of Isaac and Kazhar (sic) Busby M onnett
but has lived in Brazil for thirty-six years.
The family survivors are the widow, Lewella; a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie E vans,
of Brazil; two sons, Chester, of Brazil and Robert, of Indianapoli s; three sisters,
Mrs. Maude Harris, of Terre Haute; Mrs. Len Hunt, of Ind ianapolis; and Mrs.
Fannie Lewis, of Greenfield. There are three grandchil dren and several other
close relatives.
The body was taken to Miller and Sons Funeral Home where friends may c all
after 4 p.m. Sunday and where funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Monday,
with Rev. Fred Bolinger offocoating. Burial will be made in Sum mit Lawn.
He was married to Viola Ellen Murphy (daughter of James Murphy and Mattie Wilson) on Oct 30 1916 in Hancock Co., IN. (120) Viola Ellen Murphy was born on Sep 4 1897 in Mohawk, Hancock Co., Indiana.
